Taking these steps will make it easier for you:

"I have used Always On Time Moving for my last three moves. They were never late and in fact often arrived early! Everyone working for Always on Time was courteous and respectful and I was thrilled that each time I unpacked, none of my things were damaged."

  • If you need to use storage facilities, look at your options and schedule accordingly. As your Austin moving company, Always on Time Moving can schedule and provide all your storage needs. Ask Jonathan.
  • Make a list of everyone you need to notify of your change of address.
  • Contact key financial providers such as your bank or other institutions to cancel/setup automatic payments and/or accounts etc.
  • Notify schools and employers of change of address. If moving out of the area you'll need to register your kids for a new school.
  • When you have time, start packing non-essential stuff (it's never too soon to begin).
  • Buy, hire, beg, borrow or steal suitable boxes and containers to pack your stuff into. As your Austin moving company, Always on Time Moving is normally able to provide used box discounts for their customers.
  • Notify your doctor, dentist, veterinarian etc., to notify them of your change of address or to come off their books if necessary. In some cases you may need to get copies of your records to take with you. If you or your family (or pets) have regular medical prescriptions, get them filled to cover you throughout the moving process. If you're moving out of the area ask for referrals to new practices.
  • Contact all of your insurers (home, vehicle, medical etc) to notify them of your move. Ask your home insurer for details of your existing coverage for the actual and arrange new coverage or a transfer to your new home.
  • Send out change of address notices to friends and family if you have a firm moving date now. You'll have less time as the days pass so it's good to get this out of the way.
  • Get a form from your local Post Office for their mail forwarding service, fill it in and send it off.
  • Start making an inventory of your goods and take photos of valuable items.
  • Contact utility companies and service providers to arrange disconnections/reconnections needed
  • If Always on Time Moving is not packing for you, take on a room per day and start packing up stuff you don't use regularly.
  • Take back library books, pick up dry-cleaning and think about any other similar things you may have pending in the area.
  • If moving long distance, have your car(s) serviced.
  • Begin segregating personal/essential items that you want to move yourself. As you box these, mark DO NOT MOVE so that your Austin moving company’s team doesn’t load by mistake.
  • Empty your lawnmower and power tools of fuel etc.
  • Dispose of anything that is flammable or hazardous.
  • If you have children, think about what you're going to do with the kids during the move.
  • Call your Austin moving company and any other companies involved within 2 – 7 days of your move to confirm all of your arrangements, times etc.

After Your Move

  • Unpack logically, working down from essential to non-essential items.
  • Don't worry about unloading wardrobe boxes immediately. Your clothes can hang perfectly well in the boxes until you have time to put them away properly.
  • Unpack all electrical items as quickly as possible and check for damage - you may have a limited window for insurance claims.
  • Register to vote and for any other local government purposes.
  • If necessary change your driver's license and car details etc.

The time of your move:

  • Make sure all entryways, doorways, porches and driveways are clear.
  • If you live in a building with elevators, be sure to notify the building’s management in advance to schedule the use of the elevators by your Austin moving company.
  • Be sure to set aside a box or travel bag of personal items that you will need immediately in your new home.

At least one person should be present during the loading process. Your moving company drivers and other personnel may have questions or need access that only you can provide.
